{"id":645,"date":"2025-10-04T20:06:27","date_gmt":"2025-10-04T20:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/christiedilemme.com\/blog\/?p=645"},"modified":"2025-10-04T20:08:53","modified_gmt":"2025-10-04T20:08:53","slug":"real-estate-refresh-how-to-clean-cigarette-smoke-stained-walls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christiedilemme.com\/blog\/real-estate-refresh-how-to-clean-cigarette-smoke-stained-walls\/","title":{"rendered":"Real Estate Refresh: How to Clean Cigarette Smoke Stained Walls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"504\" data-end=\"773\">When prepping one of my featured properties for showings, I encountered a common yet frustrating problem \u2014 <strong data-start=\"609\" data-end=\"648\">walls discolored by cigarette smoke<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"504\" data-end=\"773\">That yellow haze is not just ugly; it suggests poor air quality, turning off prospective buyers before they even step in.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"1095\">With this being such a challenging obstacle to overcome, I decided to roll up my sleeves and handle it myself.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"1095\">I mixed a simple solution of bleach and warm water, grabbed a mop, and started working section by section.\u00a0 It&#8217;s important to wear a mask, open the windows, and\/or use some type of air filter when working with bleach.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"1095\">It didn\u2019t take long to see results \u2014 the walls literally started to brighten as the smoke residue lifted away.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1097\" data-end=\"1402\">What impressed me even more was how the <strong data-start=\"1137\" data-end=\"1160\">smell began to fade<\/strong> almost immediately.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1097\" data-end=\"1402\">Cigarette smoke has a way of sinking into every surface, and while paint can cover color, it can\u2019t cover odor. The bleach neutralized that lingering scent, leaving behind a crisp, clean freshness that even surprised me.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1615\">Once the walls were done, I let the home air out with all the windows open and fans circulating for a few hours.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1615\">By the next day, the space felt completely different \u2014 <strong>brighter, fresher, and ready for staging.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1617\" data-end=\"1871\">It was a great reminder that sometimes the simplest tools \u2014 a mop, bleach, and a little elbow grease \u2014 can make a huge impact.
