Beachfront to Boomtown: Lake Worth Beach’s $150M+ H.O.R.I.Z.O.N.

Lake Worth Beach is on the verge of a major transformation as city leaders consider the ambitious H.O.R.I.Z.O.N. proposal — a sweeping public-private partnership that could reshape the city’s future while keeping public ownership at its core.

Designed to both preserve community control and attract private investment, the plan would allow private development through long-term leases, enabling the city to retain ownership of its most valuable lands while unlocking their full economic potential.

If approved, H.O.R.I.Z.O.N. is expected to generate over $150 million annually for the local economy and create nearly 1,000 permanent jobs.

Major highlights of the proposal include…

$105 million, 250-room Grand Hyatt hotel would rise on the current beachside parking lots, bringing a luxury hospitality presence to the oceanfront.

$95 million, 150-room Hyatt conference hotel is planned for the city’s municipal golf course, designed to attract business events and year-round tourism.

The golf course itself would undergo a $22 million redesign led by Jack Nicklaus’ new firm, 1JN, with the goal of creating a world-class yet accessible playing experience that honors the game’s heritage while inviting new players.

But the vision for H.O.R.I.Z.O.N. extends beyond hotels and hospitality.

Additional elements include…

5-acre public oceanfront park, ensuring community access to green space and beach views.

$50 million parking garage to improve infrastructure and reduce street congestion.

New beachside buildings with restaurants, shops, and a marine-themed attraction, designed to turn Lake Worth Beach into a vibrant destination for locals and visitors alike.

Supporters tout the plan as a game-changer for Lake Worth Beach — one that would attract investment, elevate the city’s profile, and create lasting economic benefits without selling off public land.

Critics, however, continue to voice concerns over environmental impact, traffic, and the preservation of the city’s historic charm.

City leaders are preparing to bring the proposal to the community for feedback in the coming weeks, giving residents a direct voice in what could become a historic turning point for Lake Worth Beach.
